1. You pay for contacts, and you can't easily tell how many you'll have

2. Dollar prices and Indian cards
ManyChat lists prices in US dollars. Indian buyers usually see GST and their bank's currency conversion added on top, so a $39 plan lands on the statement as roughly ₹3,400 before GST at ₹88 to the dollar, and often over ₹4,000 after it.
Paying can also simply fail. ManyChat has a help article about payment problems for users in India, and its forum has threads like "six valid cards declined, Pro plan blocked". ManyChat's staff have pointed to RBI's e-mandate rules for recurring card payments.
3. One subscription per Instagram account
If you run two Instagram accounts, a ManyChat moderator confirmed you need "one Manychat account for each IG account", each with its own plan.
4. It's built for big funnels
ManyChat does a lot: Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, TikTok, email, SMS, integrations, a visual flow builder. If all you need is "comment GUIDE, get the link", that's a lot of tool to learn. Several reviewers called it overwhelming for simple setups.
What to check in any ManyChat alternative
Before you switch, check these five things on the new tool's pricing page:
- How it counts. Contacts, DMs, or nothing? A cap on contacts hurts most when a reel goes viral. A DM cap is easier to predict. No cap is easiest.
- What the free plan really does. Some free plans DM the commenter but don't post a public reply under the comment. Some keep comment triggers for paid plans only.
- Price in rupees. If you're in India, a rupee price with GST included means the number you see is the number you pay.
- How it connects. It must use "Log in with Instagram" (Instagram's official API). Never give an app your Instagram password.

When ManyChat is still the better choice
Be honest with yourself about what you need. Stay with ManyChat if:
- You sell on WhatsApp or Messenger too. ManyChat covers them in one place. Most Instagram-first tools, Blupi included, don't.
- You run long funnels. Quizzes, conditions, email capture, Shopify or Zapier steps across many channels: ManyChat's builder is deeper.
- You need "DM new followers". Instagram's public API has no new-follower trigger. ManyChat runs a "Follow to DM" feature that Meta has approved for some accounts, though users report it doesn't always fire.
If your Instagram automation is mostly comment-to-DM, story replies and answering DMs, you're paying for a lot you don't use.
